Cardiometabolic Effects of Yoga Practice Under Variable Thermal Stress: A Study on Body Weight and Total Cholesterol

In the current situation the average cases of Dyslipidaemia and cardiovascular diseases are rapidly increasing in the public. In this study we aimed to investigate the comparative effect of temperature yoga program on Total Cholesterol and Body weight among patients having dyslipidaemia and BMI over 25. A total of Ninety male having these criteria were included in this 3-armed randomized trial and allocated randomly to Hot yoga group 1 (n = 30) with 55-60 min yoga sessions for a duration of 12 weeks, Normal temperature yoga group 2 (n = 30) with 55-60 min yoga sessions for a duration of 12 weeks and the cold temperature yoga group 3 (n = 30) for the same duration. The hot yoga group was given intervention in 35 to 45 degrees, normal was 23 to 27 and the cold temperature yoga was 5 to 15 degrees. The yoga protocol remained same and of equal intensity for the all three groups. After 12 weeks, A significant difference was observed in the body weight, p < .001)., but in case of total cholesterol there was no significant difference between the Hot temperature, Normal Room Temp. and Cold Temp. groups. The independent variable, Group temperature, did not show a statistically significant effect on post-test of total cholesterol, p = .762). This suggests that differences in temperature conditions (hot, cold, and room) did not meaningfully influence. These findings suggest that temperature effectively reduces the Total Cholesterol, not statistically significant but improves the health parameter and in case of weight significant effect of temperature was found among the three groups.
